OZ File Sighting Report
Report taken from the AUFORN Mailing List
The Australian UFO Research Network
A friend of mine rang me last night with the following personal report.
0110hrs 19 June 2002 Athelstone NE suburb of Adelaide Mr & Mrs P.
Heard on a radio station 5AA that a bright orange light was visible from Magill an Eastern Adelaide suburb. They went up on their roof and saw what they took to be the same object.
They described it as a very bright light, red to orange in colour-low down in the sky. They lined its position up with a stobie pole. Seemed to be moving left to right and back again in small movements. There was no sound. It faded in brightness at times. They watched it for 10 minutes before they went inside.
Investigations revealed that the planet Mars (brilliant orange colour) was not in the sky at the time, that the star Antares (brilliant orange star often confused with Mars) was at 45 degrees in the NW sky. The wind was 5-10 knots from the NE. Their best guess was that the orange light they saw was in the direction of the subrub of Rostrevor, i.e to their SW. The sky was clear and the temperature between 4-6 degrees.
On the data given I cannot identify the object as a conventional one.
Mr P was to call 5AA overnight and see if they would ask other observers, if any, to telephone him. I will speak with Mr P again tonight.
