Summerland, B.C. Sighting

Date: February 10, 2004
Time: 6:30 p.m.

Tonight we noticed a very bright light in the sky and watched it until clouds rolling in finally obscured our view. We first noticed the light through our living room window, which faces south/southwest from Summerland, looking towards Penticton, at about 6:30 p.m. The light was bright but flickering, as if a wind was blowing tree branches in front of it. But when we went outside to look, there were no trees blocking the view. While my boyfriend went to get the binoculars I continued to watch the light when I saw a small reddish blurry light leave the big light and then move in a straight line horizontally across the sky at a speed much faster than planes usually fly. We looked through the binoculars at the big light and saw several blue, red and white lights flashing at rapid speeds, possibly forming the shape of a boomerang, but remaining stationery. Did anyone else see something like this tonight?

Addition Information:

Hi Brian,

The total sighting, from the time we noticed it to the time we couldn't see it any more, because it clouded over, was about 25 minutes. The red, blue and white lights appeared to be numerous in a boomerang shape, but we couldn't tell how many lights there were because 1) our binoculars aren't very powerful, and 2) there was a lot of movement back and forth through the lens. I am fairly certain though that there were several lights rather than one big light. From a distance, without looking through the binoculars it looked like one huge bright, white light sitting stationery in the sky but flickering as if something was passing back and forth or in a steady stream across and in front of the white light. We only saw the colors when we looked through the binoculars. The one little light that seemed to shoot out from it caught my eye because it seemed to come out of the light and then move at a steady speed, much faster than I've seen planes fly at that time of night and much farther away than a plane should have been, in a straight horizontal line out of the white light in an easterly direction.

My many thanks to the witness for the report.
