Description: Want to report my sighting. It happened last Friday night (Aug 6th), twice within an hour. The first sighting was at approx 12:10 a.m. I have a 5th floor balcony apartment on Maryland, facing south (towards the Maryland bridge). Initially, my boyfriend saw what he thought was a plane, going in the wrong direction, through my front window. We see many planes going through this same flight path, so other than the odd direction, it did not initially seem that extraordinary. It looked liked a bright light, with a greenish tinge. It was moving at an unusually slow pace, just over the Misrecordia hospital, about the same height as a plane. While my boyfriend was exclaiming how odd this was, I jokingly said that s because it s a UFO. We then went out to the balcony to get a better look. At this point it flashed 3 times, the last time with a most brilliant flash, then it just disappeared. Since there was a lot of rolling clouds, we initially thought it went behind them and would soon reappear, but soon realized this was not the case since it didn t reappear. This first sighting happened within a 3-4 minute span.
We waited awhile, for it to reappear, which it did an hour later, at approximately 1 a.m. This time it was a pinkish, red which appeared to be farther away, but in the same general area (over Misrecordia hospital). It bobbed in and out of the cloud cover, about 3 5 times. I could compare it to a firecracker in the way it rose and fell in the sky (behind the cloud cover), but it wasn t a firecracker from what we could surmise. It also disappeared behind the clouds, and it seemed that we could see an faintly illuminated cloud area where it disappeared behind, possibly it was nestled behind the cloud cover.

We sat up for another hour, totally amazed that we seen this twice in one night (neither of us had ever seen anything like this). Also no sound accompanied either sighting, but since it is a very noisy area, traffic wise, this may have obscured the sound.
We waited until 2 am, then retired, totally perplexed.

The next day we watched the news, scanned the newspaper over the next couple of days to see if anyone else had seen this phenomena.

Color/Shape: first sighting was bright, yellow, with greenish tinge (light a spot light) 2nd sighting, reddish pink, bobbed up and, looked similar to a fire cracker

Height & Speed: about the same height as a plane, very slow speed (1st sighting) 2nd sighting, bobbed up and down within clouds

TV/Radio/Press: saw a link on mywinnipeg.com. Saw the CBC news online headline UFO sightings on pace to break record , aug 9/2004 headline.

Follow-up Information from Brian Vike:

Q. - Were you or your boyfriend able to see at anytime a tail or trail following behind the object ?

A. - No, didn't notice any trail behind, the clouds may have obscured this however

Q. - Also when the sighting was taking place, did you see at anytime aircraft in the area ?

A. - No, aircraft usually finish around 10:00 p.m., that's why we thought it was most unusual

Q. - When it bobbed in and out of the cloud cover, do you believe that it was maneuvering on it's own this way, or do you think it may have appeared to look like this and possibly cloud passing in front of it ?

A. - I think it was actually moving on its own, and not an illusion caused by the clouds

Q. - Did it at anytime make any sudden or quick maneuvers ?

A. - No, but it did flash 3 times, then disappear the 1st time

Q. - Describe the area in which you made the sighting. Is it near an airport? An Air Force Base? A military or research installation of any kind?

A. - If you're familiar with the Winnipeg area, the object appeared to be over the river heights area, a residential area. The airforce base and airport is west of where I'm at, this object was in the southern sky.
