Shape of objects: Looked like large red stars - too high to see shape

Description: I was walking along a country lane with my dogs not far from where I live. I was looking up at the stars as it was a lovely clear sky. First I saw what appeared to be 2 white shooting stars (one after another about a minute apart). Then about 2 minutes later an object (I thought it may have been a plane at first) travelled across the sky quite fast from West to East and then did a U turn North, where it remained hovering for about 15 minutes then disappeared. The red light appeared to be revolving around the object and remained constant in height ( almost as high as the stars). About 2 minutes later another object with a red light came from the same direction (West to East), followed in quick succession by another which went North East. As the 2nd and 3rd ones travelled a 4th object came from the West and passed extremely close to the 2nd almost is if they were going to collide. The 4th one then went North.
All 4 objects were identical and had red and white lights which appeared to be revolving around the object.
