Weather Conditions: Clear with sun behind our position

Description: Noticed a single very white light that seemed to be stationary high on the horizon. Seemed to pulse with light occasionally and after 30 secs split horizontally into two smaller circular shapes. The two shapes would suddenly become a single larger shape again and split again, at irregular intervals. After approx. 3-4 mins, both dots moved gradually west in relation to our position on the ground for around 2-3 minutes, then travelled back east at the same slow speed. Flashing slightly more intense now, the objects changed position so that one was vertically above the other, and I believe I saw an arc of light between them which was intensely bright. Seemed to be travelling higher or further away as the circle grew smaller and the light less intense. Finally disappeared at around 17:37.
