Weather Conditions: Mostly clear sky with a few thin layers of clouds

Description: My family and I were at a party. All the guys were standing by the driveway. Suddenly something caught my eye. Up in the sky was a very bright light. All of us have never seen anything like it. We live close to Dulles airport and seen hundreds of planes. The light was stable. There was zero movement and no sound. The light was big and it's pure white not amber. What's really weird about it is the beam shooting straight down in a cone shape. We watched this thing for about 30 seconds but don't know how long it was there before i noticed it. The light just shut off like someone turn a switch. And we are pretty sure the lightsource was coming from the sky down because the light beam got wider as it traveled down. We could not stop talking about it. All the witnesses are adults and we have never seen anything like it.
